What is an eTA?
eTA is short for electronic travel authorization and can be easily applied for online. It is a convinient alternative for lots of travelers as it costs less than a visitor visa and has similar conditions as a Canadian tourist visa.
However, you only can apply for an eTA if you are a citizen from a visa-exempt country.
Who needs to get an eTA?
An eTA for Canada is required when a visa-exempt foreign national wants to enter Canada via an Canadian airport without a visa. Entry in this case includes immigration, re-immigration, and transit.
However, if you are visa-exempt and travel to Canada by sea or road (car, bus, or by foot), an eTA is not necessary.
Who does not need an eTA?
Apart from visa-exempt countries that require an eTA, there are a few cases in which non-Canadian citizens do not require an eTA to travel to Canada:- American-Canadians: only valid Canadian or U.S. passport required
- Canadian permanent residents: only permanent resident card or permanent resident travel document required
- U.S. citizens: only valid U.S. passport required
- Holders of a valid Canadian visa: only need their valid passport
How long does it take to get an eTA?
Application processing for Canadian eTAs takes up to 24 hours on average for our applicants.
However, please note that the processing time may take longer due to individual screenings by the Canadian government, technical issues of the electronic system or other reasons. Therefore we highly recommend you to apply for an eTA as soon as you decide to travel to Canada to ensure you get your eTA approved in time.

How do I get an eTA for Canada?
Applying for an eTA can be done online over an application form. Fill in all the fields with your correct passport and contact information and check your application for mistakes before continuing to the payment checkout.
By making the payment, your application will be transmitted to us and you are done!
From there we take over and forward your application to the Canadian government for processing. On average, you will receive an ETA confirmation within 24 hours as soon as it is officially approved.
